what is “real” life? – just another game.

Fascinating books are into game research. And right now I am confused what do we call “real life?” .

Yes, I admit it, I am questioning everything now a days?!

But if I try to be objective, what for me might be real life  e.g. immerse myself in the world of knowledge, for others might be a waste of time. For them I should get a “real” job. Hmmmm…. right?!   Everything is RELATIVE in life.

I understand clearly that there are basic “real” facts in life, as:  the need to breath, eat, sleep (etc.) all those “physiological” needs that Maslow describes in his “hierarchy of needs” , those can be seen as “universal”. I should add that I see that physiological layer of needs to belong to any animal form.

Anyway, if we go up into the pyramid, it starts to get blurry the relevance of the elements according each individual. Because it involves “needs” that had been created by humans, perhaps produced by societies and that have relative different importance for each individual. Or the priority level of the other natural needs might change from human to human. Yes, others might tell you what things are good for you and how they should work according to the rules of our “real” life game.

Our lives are regulated by social rules with specific goals, isn’t it a game in itself?!  The only main difference is: did someone ask us if we wanted to play it?! .  But do not be in panic, there are options, societies might have different types of games according of which cultures we are talking about 😉 then it is possible to change of game or of variants of such game if we put enough effort on it.

Well, all this babbling is to wonder: what is “real” life?. And I see more of a signs of “real” life in the first years of life of any human, than in any social, cultural, philosophical, religious, or  technological doctrine.

I am saying this because I learn from children A LOT.  Every single moment I am with a child I learn. Now I wonder,  if  their ability to discover, live the moment by transform it freely in their inner while seeking their own harmony, are those the elements that constitute “real” life? Do adults have those elements? when did we lose them?

One can say: children are “learning” from adults. Hmmmm….. but what are we teaching them?! Are we preparing them to “succeed” in the “real” life? but again, what is “rea”l life?!

Something goes beyond my understanding in this topic.

I just can say:  for me, it seems that what we call “real” life is just another game from which it is not so simple to say:  “I am not playing anymore”.

multilingual

It is a fact that independently of language, I am bad on writing. Perhaps I need to talk with a cognitive psychologist or a linguistic to understand my own case. My personal assumption is: my way of thinking is chaotic, and it does not present the conventional structures for clear expression.  Anyway, I am working on developing the proper writing communication skills so relevant for academia (and so painful to acquiere).

However this post is not about that, it’s purpose is mainly to test a multilingual blog . Yeap, for our ongoing projects with Lieksa and Helsinki, we (Mikko, Teemu and I)  need a multilingual blog. Then I am experimenting about that with my own blog. Nice!

Actually the conference of CATaC, which was bilingual, gave me food for the though in relationship to languages in academic contexts. Yeap, how important is to be open to other languages, in order to understand different ways of analysis, argumentation and philosophies. Not everything can be translated. A correct attitude towards this topic is not only interesting, but also relevant for a richer picture of any phenomena. No easy, challenging, but also rich 🙂

 Anyway, more soon!

PS. If you want to try yourself to make a multilingual wordpress site, here is a good guide for it.

correlation of the personal process of creating knowledge

when we are babies, we just make noises, or what adults interpret as noises (I have no idea if it might represent something else)

as a toddler we start to imitate behaviors and words.

as a child, we start to express ourselves independently but it is confine to an sphere

as a teenager, when the wold is opening is just a mess all over the place, which can be seen as well in our way of expression, inside and outside the person

as a young adult, you start to comprehend a bit some things, which implies as well be able to express them with another perspective and after reflect with your own experience

and…. I am stock there… 🙂 hehehehe…

But all this human process, I feel it correlates well with what we call PhD process. Our understanding and adjustment is in ourselves first and later with the outside world, it is in constant evolution.

Sometime we only babble of things, later we just start to hook ourselves in some terms, time pass and we might get stock in a small world. Time keeps on passing and we might turn crazy by getting complete lost in the “knowledge-space” in which we are getting exposed, but suddenly, when you less expected, an apparently senseful connection of thoughts take place and even you can make one logical sentence all by yourself. Then you realized: “wow! this starts to make sense”.

However I have the impression that this process is kind of cyclic, according to the reference we select. Nevertheless, if it is correct this correlation, it offers some kind of hope to reach different stages if different factors are work and develop correctly over time, and when the time is right. 🙂

puff!!!

phd day

WOW! I feel a relief. Let me tell you, I confirmed once again that talk in public stresses me A LOT!. Takes much of my energy. Also realized of some of the details you have to be aware while you chair a PhD day.
– No idea about the timing issue. Puff!!! for so many angles.
– Food organization. Thanks so much Roman, you were GREAT with it!
– Content.

I have just no idea how a conference is. And between you and me I am NOT looking forward to do that. If be a presenter is hard enough.

From the positive side, our PhD’s day start again. 🙂 I am deeply THANKFUL with the feedbacks. The senior researchers of my research team are just FANTASTIC!!! 🙂 and your support being critical with my work is much appreciate it. I learn from each one of you. My goal is clear for the following weeks. To focus! but at difference of earlier times I know where to focus 😛 I think.

What a summer!!! It has been quite busy, and I wanted to hibernate!!! I was complete naive thinking about that.

Now to the next goal.

Thank you all!

educational technology, technology education, instructional technology?

Interesting! right now I face myself with an new lack of focus and/or understanding. If the title of my blog is so clear: what am I doing?.

Anyway, let me state the question to the public. Is it correct that the primarily focus and/or objectivge of our EdTech group is the option A?. Being the other options also present but secondary objectives. Am I correct or am I missleading myself in here?

Options:
A) We are enhancing the teaching and learning process focusing on the craft or the art of using technology. (Educational technology )

B) We are focus on technological literacy for everyone. (Technology education)

C) We are doing instructional technology. Which might be similar as Educational technology but as difference of it, it stresses more the “scientific and systems approach of instructional problem solving”.

Clear thinking is just a mess.

Once a read that math teachers can’t teach math properly, because themselves can’t understand it. But at this point, I start to believe this phenomena is not exclusive of math.
