I am realizing that one of the main skills into research is one of the main skills that anyone should have in their own life: to be critic. However it is a really difficult skill to develop.

Understanding by critic a person who offers REASONED judgment or analysis or interpretation or observation about anything I would say. His or her arguments can be in favor or against the arguments of someone else. It is valid that each person has an opinion, and I find as an art how to get in agreements. It should be notice that I refer to constructive criticism in this post, not to excessive criticism which actually excess of critic it is rather unconstructive and harmful, as any other type of excess.

For me it is fascinating to discover how to make use of the gray mass that is located inside of our skull in a constructive way. Each person is full of surprises. In my perception, in order to be critic is necessary to make use of so many skills and activities. And it is not simple to learn to be critic and to develop that faculty. It needs constant learning and unlearning combined with personal reflection, it is a constant process.

As a passional and a dreamer type of personality as I am, I had been having a BIG trouble in learning to be critic myself, it is not easy at all for me. Nevertheless as my awareness of this human faulty arises, I wonder:  how is it possible to promote more the use of the reason?.  Why schools or education systems in general does not put more emphasis in develop criticism  or develop the imagination (imagination will be another post in my blog a REALLY important one!!!). At moments I have the impression that most of the “formal” education in several parts of our globe is mainly concern in:  memorize facts and information that will support some basic skills creation. But are they /we interesting to teach to be critic?  I have my doubts about it.

Wondering what is for each one of us knowledge?

I had been challenge to thing about this for some time. Do we experience knowledge? or we think about it? do we translate it? can we earn it? Each time I discover a person, a place a though my idea of knowledge keeps on evolving. And let me clarify, it doesn’t have to be a “new” person, place or though, it can be just a different angle of perception. Humans, we are so funny and interesting creatures. We stand firmly from the reference point we think we understand, from there we build our understanding of the world  (usually we do this by comparison) and we think we are right. But then it comes the question, does right and wrong exist?  As yesterday I was reading in the newspaper: “god create humans or humans create god?”. But then how can we do it in another way?, how make ourselves understand?, how help others to understand us if we can not express it in some way?

Anyway, this post was though before I went badly out of service (a.k.a. sick) I was in a conference where I was the only IT person. And I do not consider myself the strongest IT person available in a market (far away from it I would say) but yes I enjoy electronics, software and such things, plus I have study them from low level up. Anyway, it was interesting the whole event, but the relevance for this post was to hear for first time, in the discussion after one presentation that related the developers, the following clear comment: the developer shouldn’t be a programmer or IT person. Of course first I got astonished, after I took some air I asked who should it be then? no precise answer was given. But food for the though! 🙂

For me was relevant to hear that comment. It is needed to understand the whole context to try to interpret and/or understand not only the comment but beyond that, its reasons. In addition it was outstanding to finally hear and live this situation in real life and with full colors, not only read it through literature 🙂 and it supports my actual personal goal: learn to listen.

Whatever knowledge is, we all participate in its existence from different angles. I enjoy the surprising angles I must say 🙂

finally adobe-macromedia reacted !

For a long time I had been a macromedia fan. To be more precise a Flash devotee. Flash is one of the softwares more under used by programmers imho.

However, as I admit it has A LOT of positive features and it is powerful, one indisputable point against it is in the development of mobile applications. Because it WAS limited conversation that the client had with the server.

I wrote WAS 🙂 because it seems it will start a new living chapter about this.  Now SONY-Ericcson + Java + Adobe are working together to improve this limitation 🙂

This is SO interesting 🙂 for all the potential applications in and through mobile phones. On the other hand, now other platforms such as MUPE will have to put its antenna up in order to improve several graphical limitations for the UI development.  🙂 Yes!

games updates from east

It has been long without posting, but soon I will write about my research. Meanwhile some updates (it is important to keep ourselves update on what is it happening in our world.Â

My personal opinion on this is a clear division of tactics in reaching the market between Nintendo and Sony. One is more focus in the game play while the other is in interested in the integration of high end video visual technology.Nevertheless making use the capitalism system advantages with a no monopoly, let’s see how these companies will improve themselves to convince the market  🙂

Also from a global capitalist perspective, but from another point of view, for those who are into game research or with interest of the topic I recommend the article from Larissa Hjorth from RMIT University / Yonsei University.  About “Games @ NeotRegionalism: Locating Gaming in the Asia Pacific” Good food for the though! .

From all these, even that excites me the news and I enjoy the topic, deep inside I wonder: when other areas of our globe will be able to put their own presence in digital gaming too?!  – I know there are a lot of socio-economical factors on this, but still, the wish is there.

Somedays ago I was seeking eagerly for this quote. It is given by  Mafalda . Finally  I found it, as well as several of her quotes and comics. She is fantastic!!!.

I read her as a child. Now  it amazes me how she is so up to date in her reflections. From the quote I was seeking, she uses it while referring to our world (look the video below). On my side, I am in a lower level, because I get frozen each time I update myself with the “world” news 🙁 . I am slow in processing in comparison with all the speed of events and information about everything that it is displaying constantly. Right now, it was an emergency to go to my basics: learn to do not overwhelm myself living and enjoying day by day, and working step by step towards a goal or a dream. That is hard job by itself and more with all my chaos! But getting there 🙂
