are you a fonero?

It has been some days now, since I heard for first time about WiFi or FON . But today my attention on it arises when actually some hostels and hotels are offering it as an extra service. Maybe I should read properly about it and turn to be a fonera.

Does anyone in EdTech is already a fonero?

It’s an interesting idea. But I am not sure how legal it is in terms of the contract with ISP: I would bet there is a clause that tells that you cannot share you internet connection or you cannot use a part of your broadband for business or you cannot act as a re-seller of the connection or…

    Or how it is then?

There has been a lot of hype about FON, at least in Spain where its promoter, Martin Varsavsky, has been blogging about the FON experience and many other bloggers have been commenting about the staff. The main flaw pointed by some people is that the contracts (At least in Spain) do not allow explicitely the sharing of your connection and FON shifted to dealing with some ISPs.
However there has been flourishing many FON points around the country but is far from reaching a “critical mass”. It seems the future will be “FONed” but very probably the business model and the legislation (and the technology) must change.
